Shared strings, dates and sparse cells handled faithfully
Rollphy Pro lifts the file limit and unlocks batch mode.
Drop an Excel workbook (.xlsx/.xlsm) and get clean JSON without opening Excel. Every worksheet in the file is converted: single-sheet workbooks come back as one array, multi-sheet workbooks as an object keyed by sheet name. With header mode on, the first row of each sheet becomes the objects' keys.
The converter unpacks the OOXML container directly and reads it the way Excel does — shared strings including rich-text runs, inline strings, cached formula results, booleans, error cells kept verbatim, and sparse cells that stay in their column (gaps become null, values never shift left).
Dates come out right, not as five-digit serials: cells with date number formats are decoded through Excel's own 1900 calendar — including its phantom 1900-02-29 leap-year bug — so 45292 becomes 2024-01-01, exactly what the spreadsheet displays. Everything is parsed on your device; workbook contents are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it support the old .xls format?
- No — .xls is a binary format from the 1990s. Save the file as .xlsx in Excel (File → Save As) or Google Sheets (File → Download → Microsoft Excel) and it converts fine.
- How are dates converted?
- Cells styled with a date number format are decoded from Excel's serial-day count to ISO dates using Excel's real 1900 calendar, phantom leap day included. Unstyled numbers stay numbers, and times become full ISO timestamps.
- What happens to empty cells in the middle of a row?
- They become null and later cells keep their true column — deleting a cell in Excel never silently relabels the columns after it. Header mode also remembers empty header cells as column2, column3… so nothing collides.
