Scanning entries and healing XML — nothing uploaded
“The archive is either in unknown format or damaged” means the ZIP index — the central directory at the end of the file — is gone or scrambled. The entries themselves are usually still there: every file in a ZIP carries its own local header, which is exactly what this tool scans for.
Drop the damaged archive here: Rollphy walks the raw bytes, recovers every readable entry, checks each against its stored checksum, and repacks the survivors into a clean ZIP. The repair runs entirely in your browser — the archive is parsed in memory and never uploaded.
Recovery works for truncated downloads, broken transfers and headers destroyed by a failed copy. Entries that were physically cut off mid-stream can’t come back, and the report lists anything that was skipped so you know exactly what you got.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you recover a ZIP with a missing central directory?
- Yes — that is the main case. The scanner finds each entry by its local header, decompresses it and builds a fresh, clean archive.
- Are the recovered files checked for corruption?
- Every recovered entry is verified against the CRC checksum stored with it. Mismatches are flagged in the report rather than silently kept.
- Can you recover password-protected ZIPs?
- Encrypted entries are detected and reported, but they can’t be recovered without the password.
