Sync subtitle timings
Shift every subtitle cue by an offset and rescale timings for frame-rate mismatches (23.976, 25, 29.97 fps) right in your browser. Free, no sign-up; files never upload.
Drop in a subtitle file (or paste it), nudge the shift by tenths of a second, and every cue moves with it — the synced copy rebuilds live as you type and the first three timestamps are previewed so you can check against the dialogue. The output keeps the input's format: SRT stays SRT, VTT stays VTT.
Two classic problems need this page. A release-timing mismatch: the subtitles were authored for one cut or frame rate and the whole file drifts — fix it with a constant offset. A frame-rate mismatch: content sped up or slowed down between 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30 fps (the PAL speedup is 23.976 to 25) — fix it with the two fps selects, which rescale every timestamp proportionally.
The mechanics are honest and order matters: rescaling is applied first, then the offset, so the shift you type is in seconds of the output timeline. Negative shifts clamp at zero — cues pushed entirely off the front of the video are dropped, and a cue straddling zero starts at 00:00:00.
Need the format changed rather than the timing? The subtitle converter handles SRT to VTT and VTT to SRT, with one locked page per direction.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I know how much to shift?
- Find a line you can hear in the video, note how early or late it is in whole seconds, and type that as the shift — then fine-tune in 0.1 steps while watching the preview timestamps.
- Does this also convert between SRT and VTT?
- No — sync deliberately keeps the input format so you change one thing at a time. The subtitle converter page handles direction changes, including locked SRT to VTT and VTT to SRT pages.
- What is the PAL film speedup, in practice?
- Films shown at 25 fps in PAL regions play about 4% faster than 23.976 fps masters, so subtitles drift by over 2 seconds per minute. Set Timed for 23.976 and Playing at 25 and every cue lands where it belongs.
- Are my subtitle files uploaded anywhere?
- No. All parsing and rescaling runs in your browser tab — the file never leaves your device, and the page works offline once loaded.
