Decode Base64 to text

Decode Base64 back to text in your browser. Whitespace and newlines ignored, UTF-8 handled correctly, clear errors on broken input — nothing uploaded.

Newline and whitespace in the input are ignored.

Paste Base64 — from an API response, a JWT segment, an email attachment's transfer encoding — and read the text immediately. Line breaks and whitespace are ignored, because real-world Base64 arrives wrapped at 76 columns from MIME and certificate files.

Decoding produces UTF-8 bytes that are then decoded to text, so CJK text, emoji and accented characters round-trip exactly. base64url input (- and _) decodes without a separate toggle, and missing padding (=) is tolerated — the decoder repairs what standard tools choke on.

Genuinely broken input (a % in the middle, a stranded single trailing character) gets a clear error instead of mojibake. Decoding happens entirely in your browser; encoded credentials and tokens never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

It didn't error but the output is gibberish — why?
The input probably wasn't UTF-8 text to begin with — for example a Base64-encoded image or a UTF-16 payload. Text output only makes sense for text payloads; for binary data you need a file decoder.
Does it handle base64url and missing padding?
Yes. - and _ alphabets decode like their + and / counterparts, and absent = padding is repaired before decoding, which is exactly how JWT segments are shaped.
Can I decode something into a file, not text?
This page is for text payloads. For encoded images inside documents, the JPEG repair tool carves embedded images directly.
